Verbier is a sea of white, snow shovelling galore, traffic jams of snow clearing trucks, incredible on-piste conditions, however, it also means we have a particularly high avalanche risk for this time of year, so to help you understand the conditions and feel safe, we are offering a variety of avalanche awareness training courses for all levels of skiers.
This is a fully comprehensive bespoke avalanche training day that will teach you the most important avalanche awareness skills and safety protocols to follow. We highly recommend this day for those new to off-piste skiing but also for any freerider who wants to improve their back country knowledge. You will come away from this course with the confidence to make safe decisions when skiing off-piste.
You will learn about backcountry planning, avalanche hazards, how the wind affects the snow, what to do if caught, how to operate an avalanche airbag, how to use effective avalanche transceiver search, proper techniques for probe use, and effective shovelling techniques for the rapid recovery of an avalanche victim.
According to your level, the full day course can be split to cover a morning of training, followed by off-piste skiing in the afternoon around Verbier, or can be a full day of freeride skiing with training throughout the day.
Our next available course is on Sunday 17th December, however if you cannot make this date, and are interested in booking another date let us know ASAP and we’ll book you in. We also have availability for the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 7th of January.
Please let us know your ski level and avalanche understanding upon booking so we can ensure you are in a group with similar skill levels.
The price for the course is 175 CHFs per person for the day, and we will run the course once we have 4 people signed up. We take a maximum of 8 people in the group.
*Everyone must come with their own transceiver, avalanche pack, probe and shovel. If you need to hire these before the course, let us know.
This is a fun day out that is also providing you with invaluable knowledge of the mountain.
